You spend good money on a luxury suit. Don't let bad storage ruin it.
Multi-head thread embroidery is beautiful, but it is also delicate. The threads can snag, the fabric can yellow, and the fold lines can become permanent if you don't store it right.
1. Never Use Plastic Bags
When you bring your suit home, don't leave it in the plastic bag from the shop. Plastic traps moisture, which can cause the fabric to yellow and the embroidery to smell. Instead, use a breathable cotton garment bag or a clean pillowcase.
2. Fold Gently, and Change the Folds
Don't press the fabric too hard. When folding, make sure the embroidery isn't crushed under heavy layers. Also, change the fold lines every few months. If you leave a suit folded in the same place for a year, that line becomes permanent and can damage the threads.
3. Keep Away from Sunlight
Direct sunlight is the enemy of colour. It fades the fabric and can dull the sheen of the thread. Store your suits in a dark cupboard. If you must hang them, use a breathable cover.
4. Beware of Moths
Before storing for the season, make sure the suit is clean. Moths are attracted to body oils and sweat. A clean suit in a clean cupboard is safe.
